Florida born and bred, JJ Grey, a product of a long tradition of great Southern storytellers, is a first-rate song crafter, drawing from his roots with ease and authority and mixing raw rural blues with tough, swampy Southern rock.  His songs draw deep on his heritage and are rich, soulful, and commanding, his rough-hewn voice evoking complex emotions with a minimal amount of words.  His band, Mofro, delivers his material with brilliant musicianship which is sinuous, vibrant and mesmerizing.  JJ Grey & Mofro’s Alligator records debut, “Country Ghetto” was released in 2007 and features 12 original JJ compositions.  Earlier releases on Fog City Records include “Lochloosa” released in 2004 and “Blackwater” produced in 2001.
